Alignment: You’ve Been Worried About the Wrong Self

Alignment.

It’s almost become a buzz word now, hasn’t it?

C’mon, you’ve definitely heard it before!

“Find alignment with one’s self.”

Or what about…

“Inner alignment means true peace.”

And then there’s…

“When you’re in alignment with your inner being, everything simply flows.”

We’re all hearing about this alignment thing, all the damn time!

So what is it? Is it bullshit? Another ploy in the self-help industry? Another way for society to feed into the disaster that is, the mental health world??

Honestly, I’m here to tell you that none of the above are true!

In fact, alignment to your intuition/your gut response/your inner voice/your truest self, should be your only and ever concern.

Why??

Oh, I’m so happy you asked!!

Ok, so here’s a little secret – each one of us has a Higher Self (think of it as a ball of energy that is still a part of us, just vibrating at a much higher frequency) that resides just above our physical body.

Now, you can choose to question me and the thousands of years of history that support me or, you can choose to simply have FAITH and TRUST that this is absolutely true and thousands of years of teachings wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t so!

Nice! I’m very pleased to hear that you are choosing to simply trust me here! 😉

Let’s take this all a step further…

We decided, together, that there is a Higher Self residing above you, now we must also decide that anything you have ever wanted or desired is already out in the Universe for you to have/experience!

Again you think this is nuts – but it is the law! The law of the Universe! The law of attraction!

See, we are just energetic beings you and I, and whenever we have a desire, whether it be big or small, out loud or silent within, there is an energetic signal sent out into the Universe so that it may begin the creation of your desire.

This happens every time you want something – good or bad, knowing or unknowing.

Every. Single. Time. Period.

So what does this mean!?

It means you better be deliberate and positive in your wanting, and you better make sure you are in ALIGNMENT with your Higher Self because it can see the path of least resistance towards your already manifested desire!!

Your Higher Self has a bird’s eye view, so to speak, of how you can get from A to B.

How do you listen to the guidance of your Higher Self??

You understand your intuition and gut response, for your Higher Self communicates via your intuition and gut response!

Oh c’mon, that is fucking dope!

Let’s put this into human vibes…

Step 1 – you have a higher self

Step 2 – everything you want is already out for you to have

Step 3 – your higher self can see the path to what you want

Step 4 – align to your intuition to hear your higher self

Step 5 – follow guidance of intuition

Step 6 – get what you want

Boom! Do you see now that your only and ever concern is your alignment to yourself?!

In the alignment to your inner self, you will be connected to your Higher Self who can see the path so clearly to what you desire! Decisions become easy, choices become clear, you will begin meeting all of the right people at the exact right time, almost bumping right into them!

Life will simply flow and you have zero worries or concerns because you trust and have faith in the guidance of your higher self!

Take the weight of the world off your shoulders my sweet soul – concern yourself only with the alignment to your inner being!!

Are You Selfish?

Are you selfish?

Now really ask yourself – are you selfish?

Typically, the answer is, “no.” In fact, we all believe we are the complete opposite of selfish!

Well, before you become too impressed with yourself, let’s get on the same page about what selfish means.

Settle in young padawan; you’re going to like this one!

Alright, so what the hell do I mean when I use the term selfish?

Well, when I use the word “selfish”, I am using it in a very positive light. See, being selfish means that you care only and ever about your happiness – yeah, that’s right, I said it! YOUR happiness!

So wouldn’t that technically be a “bad” thing??

Well, technically, yes. But also, technically, no.

Are you confused yet!? LOL

Let’s start with this – YOU CANNOT CHANGE ANYONE, BUT YOURSELF.

One more time?

You cannot change anyone, but yourself.

Read that a few times, please.

Still, don’t believe me?? Reflect for a moment; think back on all of your past relationships, friendships, family relationships, etc. Now think about all of the things you wish they could change about themselves. Did you try to help them? Did you try to change for them? Did you try to point out all the areas where they messed up or could be different so they could make the change?

Now – how did that go? Were they able to change? Or better yet, were you able to change them?

We all want to be everyone else’s savior; being the one who could change them!

Where the fuck did we get this idea from!?

Wherever we adopted it from, its flipping nuts! To believe that we are so powerful that we can actually affect change on another human is utterly insane!

We have a hard enough time changing ourselves, what in the world makes us think we can do this for someone else!?

See now!? You cannot change anyone, but yourself.

If I can’t change you and you can’t change me, then why are we depending on each other for our own happiness??

If I am unhappy, and I am expecting my partner or friends or family to “fix” me and “change” me, then I am being extremely selfish in the most unproductive way! We can’t make each other happy because we can’t control each others lives!

You want to be happy? You want to change your life?

Then YOU have to do it! YOU have to be selfish in the most productive way!

You take the blame off of everyone around you, you place it on yourself, and now you have something to work on! Now there is space to learn, grow, and transform.

Wanna know the other cool part?

Once I take all of this unrealistic responsibility off of my partner, friends, and family, they then have more space in their world to take care of themselves!! That’s one less thing for me to concern myself with and one less thing for them to worry about!

Talk about a win win win win, huh?

So what’s the moral of the story? BE SELFISH! Worry only and every about yourself! If there is ever anyone to blame for your unhappiness or your life not panning out the way you’d hoped, its YOU!

Make yourself happy first! Make yourself proud first! Fall in love with yourself first!!

Now go take all this power and find some fucking joy, alright?! 😉

Meditation – An Honest and Messy Journey To Stillness

I remember being introduced to meditation when I was around 10 or 11.

We had a Yoga instructor come to teach a class for the dance summer camp I was attending.

She had us lay down in our dance studio, on some thin yoga mat. She turned the lights off and guided us to close our eyes. “Imagine you are floating on a lily pad in the most beautiful garden you’ve ever seen.”

And that’s about all I can remember because I immediately burst into laughter!

“I’m floating on a what now? Are you telling me I’m supposed to feel like a frog or something?”

As you can see, meditation was not something I was particularly familiar with – who am I kidding – I thought that stuff was complete bullshit!

Throughout the years, I’d dabble in a yoga class here and there, enjoying the last few minutes of rest and silence, but that was about it when it came to my exposure and knowledge of this mystical practice of meditation.

Seriously though, I legit thought that meditation meant you were floating above the ground, completely blank inside, void of any and all thoughts/feelings.

Thank you very much, mainstream media!

I was totally sheltered from the world of spirituality my entire life. And I don’t say that to place blame on anyone, including myself, I say that because it is the truth. My upbringing and circle of people around me would not have lead to an exposure into spirituality or meditation.

It wasn’t until I was in my mid-twenties that I started to become intrigued by the idea of meditating. This of course came as a shock to everyone, including myself, but at the time, I was desperate for anything to help me quiet my mind.

No one told me to start meditating. I didn’t read it in some book. I didn’t go to some class or watch some movie that inspired me to start meditating.

It was an inner knowing. An impulse I couldn’t explain. A literal nudge on the shoulder to move in that direction. Now, at the time, I didn’t know what this was, but holy shit, it was absolutely my intuition guiding me!! (so damn cool)

So – I sit down for my first meditation. I’m in my apartment bedroom. I shut the blinds and light a candle. I looked up a guided meditation on YouTube, lay down on my bed, and… it was pure MAGIC! It was like this rush of beauty and warmth; almost like I was being covered in butterflies!

YEAH RIGHT!!! HAHAHA!!

Oh my god, I fucking hated it!!! I could literally sit there for 3 minutes before I opened my eyes and went about my day. I would attempt it for a day, maybe two, then take a few weeks off, repeat the attempt, get frustrated, take a few weeks off – you get the picture!

This vicious cycle went on for about a year, with very minimal progress along the way and a whole lot of frustration!! I was still so confused about what the point/goal of meditation was and how you actually clear your mind of everything going on in there!

It felt like everything was riding against me in every damn direction and this whole meditation thing was a literal load of crap.

And then it happened!

My cousin invited me to go have a tarot card reading at a psychic shop near my apartment. (real hippie-dippie stuff, I know!)

While we were waiting for our appointment, I received another nudge.

This time, the nudge was to go look at the books on the other side of the room.

Something inside of me had me drawn to the book that changed everything, “Ask And It Is Given,” by Esther (Abraham) Hicks.

Now, I need you to know that prior to this very moment, I was not one to purchase or even read books. I was more of a movie kinda gal, and me wanting this book was just strange enough that I ended up purchasing it and reading it in only 2 weeks!

This book teaches you the laws of the universe, how to use your emotions as a guidance system, and how to connect back to or tune into Source energy (higher self, inner self, God, etc.)

Whoa man! This shit was amazing! This book hit me right in my soul and I felt like I was cheating myself if I didn’t at least try to apply some of the techniques it taught.

An entire year went by before it didn’t feel like a chore to sit in my meditation, and, the less it felt like a chore, the more I began enjoying myself.

I was able to will myself into sitting longer. I found myself more and more curious about all the different modalities and teachings out there. I started reading more books on mindfulness, chakras, intention, etc. I also started going to meditation classes and workshops; I even started seeing my own intuitive healer!

The moral of the story?

All of the cliches are true!

When your gut instincts are talking to you, listen.

When you really don’t want to meditate, you have to.

It’s called a meditation PRACTICE because that’s exactly what you have to do, practice.

There is no “quick” way to connection, so buckle up buttercup! Patience is the name of the game here!

I’m not here to sugar coat anything for you, ever, but rather give you the dirt! The muck! The mess! So you don’t feel so alone!

Starting your meditation practice is messy; so let it be BEAUTIFULLY messy!

With gratitude and love,
Sara
